Poor Sheen Uniformity

This refers to areas of uneven gloss – shiny or dull spots – that may occur on a freshly painted surface.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

• An uneven spread rate.
• Failure to properly prime a porous surface, or a surface with varying degrees of porosity.
• Poor application resulting in lapping.

  SOLUTION
  New substrates should be primed or sealed before applying a topcoat, as this will ensure a uniformly porous surface.

  If a primer or sealer is not used, you may need to apply a second coat of paint. This additional coat will frequently even out sheen irregularities. Take care to apply the paint from wet to dry to prevent lapping.
